What are people searching for when it comes to hearing aids?
We asked AI to tell us what people are most looking for when it comes to their hearing health. Here are the top things people commonly search for or ask about on Google when it comes to hearing aids. These trends come from popular "People Also Ask" sections, related searches, buying guides, review sites, and consumer behavior patterns in 2025–2026. If you have found that you are searching these same things, we hope you can find some answers here!
1. Best Hearing Aids and Brands
People frequently search for recommendations like:
"Best hearing aids 2026"
"Best hearing aid brands" (e.g., Phonak, Signia, Starkey, Widex, Oticon, ReSound)
"Best OTC hearing aids" vs. prescription models
Reviews and "best of" lists dominate because shoppers want unbiased picks based on sound quality, features, and value. Marketing is a huge business, so how can you know what to trust? Those $99 hearing aids you see on TV and the internet are marketed so well! It seems like a great alternative to much more expensive prescription aids. Let me tell you, its all marketing! Unless you have a very flat, mild loss, you are not going to be happy with them. We will be honest when you ask us what hearing aids we recommend and which are our favorites. We are not beholden to any of our brands and will keep it that way so that we can offer the best options for our clients.
2. Cost and Affordability
Cost is one of the biggest concerns:
"How much do hearing aids cost?"
"Are hearing aids covered by insurance/Medicare/Medicaid?"
"Cheapest hearing aids" or "OTC hearing aids under $1000"
Financing options, warranties, and value comparisons
Many wonder about over-the-counter (OTC) options as a lower-cost alternative to traditional prescription devices (often $1,000–$7,000+ per pair) and it really just depends on the severity of your loss. OTC aids have been great for mild - moderate loss. Right now our favorite brand of OTC aids are the Sennheiser’s. We have tried Jabra and Sony and others, but we have had the most success with Sennheiser. If your loss is moderately severe - profound, prescription aids are the way to go. We try to keep our prices low and competitive without compromising our award winning service. Traditional Medicare does not have a hearing aid benefit, but Medicare Advantage plans do! Right now our favorite Medicare Advantage plan is United Healthcare; great benefit and lots of options to choose from, including their low cost Relate brand.
We offer amazing financing through Cherry! They have a much higher approval rate than other finance companies. Our aids all come with a 3 year warranty and 3 year loss and damage coverage.
3. Over-the-Counter (OTC) vs. Prescription Hearing Aids
A major shift since OTC became widely available:
"Best OTC hearing aids"
"Do OTC hearing aids work?"
"OTC vs prescription hearing aids"
"Self-fitting hearing aids"
Shoppers ask if OTC models (available at places like Amazon, Walmart, or pharmacies) are good enough for mild-to-moderate loss, or if they need professional fitting. Like I said before, we have tried several brands of OTC hearing aids and have landed on the Sennheiser’s as our preferred brand. They are excellent for mild - moderate hearing loss and Bluetooth capability.
4. Types, Styles, and Features
Common questions focus on practical choices:
"Invisible hearing aids" or "completely-in-canal (CIC) vs behind-the-ear (BTE)"
"Rechargeable hearing aids" (battery life is a huge factor)
"Bluetooth hearing aids" or "hearing aids with smartphone app"
Features like AI noise reduction, tinnitus relief, water resistance
People want discreet, comfortable options that work well in noisy environments or for specific lifestyles. All custom CIC, IIC, ITC, ITE or BTE (requiring an ear mold) hearing aids need to be purchased at your local clinic so that they can make impressions of your ears. Our favorite right now are the Virto Infinio’s. Their ITE aids are now rechargeable and have Bluetooth connectivity, and they are smaller than other’s with those same features. For AI noise reduction, our go-to’s are the Phonak Sphere and ReSound Vivia. We have been very impressed with both of these! The Phonak’s are almost water proof, during a training their audiologist actually had a set sitting in a fishbowl with water for an hour, took them out and they worked perfectly well! We really like the tinnitus relief program that the ReSound aids have.
5. How to Choose and What to Look For
Broader decision-making searches include:
"How to choose hearing aids"
"Hearing aid buying guide"
"What to expect when getting hearing aids" or "do hearing aids really help?"
Trial periods, adjustment process, and "how long do hearing aids last?"
Many ask about getting a hearing test first and whether two aids are better than one. Yes you should get a hearing test first. You can also take a hearing test online and then we can test you through the hearing aids during your fitting, but ideally, if you have a test to begin with, we can fine tune them better before sending them to you. I need to get home to make dinner but will continue this later!
6. Effectiveness and Real-User Experiences
"Do hearing aids work for [specific issue like tinnitus or severe loss]?"
"Hearing aids reviews" or "hearing aid complaints"
"Best hearing aids for background noise/speech clarity"
Side effects or adaptation: "Will hearing aids make everything too loud?"
Shoppers seek reassurance on benefits, especially for speech understanding in groups or noisy settings. TBC
7. Where to Buy and Providers
"Hearing aids near me"
"Best places to buy hearing aids" (Costco, online, audiologists, big-box stores)
"Hearing aid clinics" or "online hearing aids"
Local vs. direct-to-consumer options are hot topics. TBC

A TV STREAMER CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE WITH UNDERSTANDING SPEECH WHILE WATCHING TV
Watching TV with hearing loss can be surprisingly frustrating, even when the volume seems loud enough. Background music, sound effects, and rapid dialogue often overlap, muddying the words you most want to hear, while accents, whispered lines, or poor audio mixing make clarity even worse. Cranking up the volume helps a little but blasts everyone else in the room and still doesn’t solve the problem of masked speech. As a result, many people with hearing loss end up straining to follow the plot, constantly rewinding, reading lips on screen, or simply giving up and disengaging—turning what should be relaxing entertainment into a tiring chore.
Hearing aid accessories like TV streamers and remote microphones offer transformative benefits for individuals with hearing loss, dramatically improving speech understanding and everyday listening experiences. A TV streamer connects wirelessly to your television, smartphone, or music player and transmits crystal-clear audio directly into your hearing aids, allowing you to enjoy movies, shows, and calls at a personalized volume without disturbing others in the room. Meanwhile, remote microphones (also called companion mics or partner mics) capture a speaker’s voice from up to 80 feet away and stream it straight to your hearing aids, making conversations in noisy restaurants, lectures, or large gatherings significantly easier and less fatiguing. By reducing background noise and enhancing speech clarity, these advanced hearing aid accessories help users stay connected, boost confidence in social settings, and enjoy media with family and friends—ultimately delivering a richer, more independent quality of life.

How Medicare Advantage Hearing Aid Benefits Actually Work (and Why It’s Not as Simple as It Sounds)
Hey there! If you’re reading this, chances are you or someone you love is trying to figure out how to get hearing aids covered through a Medicare Advantage plan. We get this question every single day at Pure Hearing, so let’s break it down in plain English.
First: Original Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage
Original Medicare (Parts A & B) does NOT cover hearing aids or exams for fitting them (routine hearing is excluded).
Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurance companies, and many of them DO include some level of hearing aid coverage as an extra benefit.
That’s the good news. The tricky part? Every Medicare Advantage plan partners with a specific third-party hearing aid benefit manager, and that company is the one who actually controls what’s covered, how much they’ll pay, and which providers you can use.
The Big Third-Party Players (and What They’re Like in Real Life)
Here’s the current lineup you’ll run into most often:
TruHearing (used by Humana, DMBA, some Select Health plans, some Aetna plans, and others)
Biggest name in the game.
You call TruHearing directly (or they call you after enrollment).
They’ll schedule you with an in-network provider and tell you exactly what your copay will be.
Typical allowance: $699–$2,500 per aid depending on the plan and technology level.
Huge network, but you have to stay in-network to get the benefit.
NationsHearing (used by many Aetna plans, Wellcare, some Cigna plans, and others)
Very similar model to TruHearing.
They mail you a welcome kit with a list of providers or you call their number.
Coverage amounts vary widely by plan (some are surprisingly generous, some are pretty basic).
HearUSA (used by some Aetna/CVS Health plans and a few smaller carriers)
Owned by the same company as Beltone and Miracle-Ear.
Benefit is almost always tied to HearUSA-owned locations (so your choice of provider is limited unless you pay out of pocket).
EPIC/UnitedHealthcare Hearing / hi HealthInnovations (specific to certain UHC plans)
Their own in-house program, Relate, which offers great prices and usually range from $199 - $1249 per aid.
Can include custom built receivers if you need them.
This is our personal favorite Medicare Advantage plan, great benefit and several options.
So How Does This Actually Work Step-by-Step?
You enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that lists “hearing aids” as a benefit (check the Evidence of Coverage document or call the plan).
After your coverage starts (usually January 1 if you enrolled during AEP), you’ll either get a welcome packet in the mail or you call the phone number listed under “hearing benefits.”
The third-party benefit manager verifies your eligibility and tells you exactly what you’re entitled to (dollar amount per aid, which technology levels are covered, etc.).
They schedule you with an in-network provider (or give you a list to choose from).
You go to your appointment, pick out hearing aids that fit within your allowance, pay your copay, and walk out with new ears.
Pro Tips from the Team at Pure Hearing
The dollar amounts listed in the plan’s marketing brochure are often the maximum retail price they’ll cover, not what you’ll actually pay out of pocket. The third-party managers negotiate big discounts, so your copay is usually much lower than you expect.
Most plans have a new benefit every 2–3 years. Mark your calendar!
You usually can’t combine the Advantage benefit with other insurance (like a spouse’s plan).
If your favorite audiologist isn’t in-network, you can still see them, but you’ll pay full price and miss out on the benefit.
Bottom Line
Medicare Advantage can be an absolute game-changer for hearing aid costs — many of our patients pay $500–$1,500 per ear instead of $2,000+. But the key is understanding that the insurance company isn’t paying your audiologist directly — they’ve handed the keys to a third-party manager, and that’s who you’ll be working with.
Unfortunately, most 3rd party companies requires you to be within a certain distance from your providing office. If your insurance goes through TruHearing or UHC Hearing, you will need to call the number on the back of your card to be directed to a local provider. Make sure when you go that you know exactly what your co-pay options are. We’ve seen way too many times where providers have neglected to use peoples insurance benefits and have sold them much more expensive aids instead. We can help anyone who has a benefit that goes through Nation’s Hearing or Hear USA.
Luckily for our Utah residents, we would love to help you with your Medicare Advantage hearing aid purchase! Please give us a call or send a text today to schedule your hearing test and consultation!
Here’s to better hearing in the new year!

Hey, Hearing Aids Might Just Save Your Brain: What the Latest Studies Are Saying
Okay, real talk: getting older kinda sucks sometimes. Your knees creak, you forget why you walked into the kitchen, and suddenly everyone’s mumbling like they’re in a Christopher Nolan movie. But here’s some legitimately good news: if you’ve been putting off getting hearing aids because “I’m not THAT old,” new research says those little gadgets might actually help protect your brain from dementia.
Yeah, you read that right.
Over the past few years, some huge, well-run studies have dropped solid evidence that treating hearing loss with hearing aids is linked to a significantly lower risk of cognitive decline and dementia. We’re not talking small potatoes either:
The big one everyone cites is the 2023 ACHIEVE study (published in The Lancet). It was a randomized controlled trial (the gold standard) with over 3,000 older adults. The people who got hearing aids + auditory rehab had almost 50% less cognitive decline over three years compared to the control group that just got basic aging-education talks. For folks who were at higher risk to begin with (think: less educated, more health issues), the protection was even stronger.
Another massive analysis from 2023 looked at nearly 438,000 people in the UK Biobank. After controlling for a ton of variables (education, loneliness, smoking, diabetes, etc.), people who used hearing aids had about a 30% lower risk of developing dementia compared to people with hearing loss who didn’t use them. People who could hear fine to begin with? Their risk was basically the same whether they wore aids or not (obviously). The key takeaway: it’s the act of treating the hearing loss that seems protective.
A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis (basically a study of all the best studies) pooled data from over 31,000 people and found that hearing aid users had a 19–28% lower chance of developing dementia, plus slower cognitive decline overall.
So why does this happen?
The leading theories are pretty intuitive:
Less “cognitive load” – When you can’t hear well, your brain is working overtime just to decode garbled sound. That mental effort steals resources from memory, problem-solving, and other higher functions.
Social isolation sucks for your brain – Untreated hearing loss makes people withdraw from conversations, dinners, parties… and loneliness is one of the strongest predictors of dementia we know.
The brain physically changes – There’s evidence that chronic hearing loss speeds up brain atrophy in areas responsible for speech and memory (like the temporal lobes). Hearing aids seem to slow that down.
Bottom line: Hearing aids aren’t just about hearing better. They’re about giving your brain a fighting chance as you age.
Look, nobody’s saying slap on some hearing aids and you’re immortal. Dementia is complicated, and genes, exercise, diet, blood pressure, and a million other things matter too. But out of all the modifiable risk factors, hearing loss is one of the biggest (it’s in the top 3 according to the 2020 Lancet Commission on dementia prevention), and it’s also one of the easiest to fix.
So if you’ve been squinting at people and pretending you caught every word… maybe it’s time to book that hearing test. Your future crossword-puzzle-loving, grandkid-story-remembering self will thank you.
And yes, modern hearing aids are tiny, rechargeable, Bluetooth-enabled miracles that stream Spotify directly into your head. They’re basically AirPods for people who refuse to admit they’re getting older. (We’re all in that club eventually.)
